glee-ss-1

Glee “Sectionals” was originally slated to be the final episode of the original run of the show. Thankfully, when FOX realized the potential of the musical dramedy, they commissioned an additional nine episodes, and “Sectionals” ended up as the mid-season finale. Glee fans will have to make it through a long cold winter before the show thaws out, and airs again in April.

As Sectionals draw near, Mr. Shu must stay away from the Glee Club or risk disqualifying his singers. Emma delays her wedding for a few hours to take his place and cover for Will as the leader of the club. Just before the students are set to leave for the contest, Rachel spills the beans to Finn that Puck (Mark Salling) is Quinn’s real baby daddy.

Feeling betrayed, Finn leaves the Gleeks in a lurch, while he licks his wounds. To the horror of the glee clubbers, they learn at the contest, that scheming Sue (Jane Lynch) released their song list to the rival teams, and the cheaters are performing all their numbers. With a little nudge from Mr. Shu, Finn rushes to their aid, gives them an idea for a song (“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Rolling Stones), and with a pep talk and an hour of practice, they are on their way to a big win. Due to her bad behavior, Sues gets a temporary dismissal, from Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba), and is dethroned as leader of the Cheerios, but makes sure that Will understands that she will someday return to make his life a living hell.

Ken (Patrick Gallagher) dumps Emma just moments before the wedding, knowing that Emma’s heart belongs to Will, so now maybe the two star-crossed “friends” will have a chance to finally be together. I hope so, because I adore Emma and her sugary-sweet personality, brilliant intuition and crazy idiosyncrasies. And as I have said before, I would have given away my autographed Dachshund to have Will as my high school Spanish teacher.

Glee’s return in the Spring is just another reason, along with green grass, spring flowers, fresh air and warm weather, to look forward to April. See you then.
