For all the fans of the Australian musical duo known as Flight of the Conchords, bad news came today directly from the horse’s mouth, or in this case, the band. Here’s what they had to say on their website:
We’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.
The show named after the band originally debuted on June 17, 2007, on the HBO cable network.
Running for two seasons, the show produced a total of 22 episodes with two Emmy nominations; one for best comedy series and one for lead actor in a comedy for Jemaine Clement. Despite its relatively short run, it is not the only show to ever bow out gracefully on a high note, rather than waiting for the death knell. RIP Conchords.
