J.D. is jealous of Drew (again), Lucy looks for a new mentor, Dr. Cox puts too much pressure on Drew, and Denise grows as a human being this week on Scrubs.
Drew no longer has to wear the #1 sign Dr. Cox gave him in the last episode. Instead he gets a lovely pink shirt to replace it. J.D. is extremely jealous and is almost elated when Dr. Cox puts so much pressure on Drew that he buckles when dealing with a coding patient. Dr. Cox is so disappointed in Drew that he starts treating him worse than the other students. J.D. talks to Perry and tells him that he pushed Drew too hard and not to let himself get in the way of forgiving Drew.
Meanwhile, J.D. tells Lucy she needs to find a new mentor as he doesn’t know how long he’ll be at the school. She chooses Denise Mahoney who rebukes her at first, but brings her in to deal with an annoying patient. It turns out the patient has a son, Ryan, that Denise bonds with. Denise finds out that Ryan’s mother is dying- she has maybe a year left. Denise tries to get Lucy to be there for Ryan because Denise doesn’t know how to open herself up emotionally, but Lucy pushes her to do the right thing. Denise ends up giving Ryan her cell number if he needs to talk.
This episode was a bit more entertaining than last week. The new characters seemed to get more into their groove with Lucy and Cole being less annoying than they were previous while Drew and Denise grew even further. They still don’t compare to the last cast quite yet, but I’m finding them more watchable. Apparently next week we get to say goodbye to Ted and Gooch so there’s a good chance I’ll blubber!
