HGTV

sent three designers to the houses of three celebrities who either didn’t know how to decorate their houses for Christmas or just wanted someone else to do all the heavy lifting.

Jewel

lives on a nice ranch with her husband in Texas.  The home is very rustic and she wanted to have a lovely country Christmas but wasn’t sure how to decorate for it.  Designer Erin Valencich came over to help her out and the two decorated the house.   Erin brought a beautiful artificial, pre-lit tree that the women decorated with a dried grapevine garland, pine cone ornaments, vintage card ornaments, and metal Texas stars.  Over the mantle, they put eucalyptus, bark trees, candles and pine cones.  Everything was simple and very country.  Jewel’s in-laws and husband really enjoyed the decorations and food that was presented.

Kathy Lee Gifford

designed her own house interior and is not used to just letting someone put things where they like.  She still let designer Eddie Ross come in and do just that.  He brought in two live trees and, using the colors already in the room, decorated them in gold, blue, and red ornaments.  Over the mantle, he used a boxwood garland and a hand cut paper icicle garland.  The top was decorated with Kathy Lee’s own candlestick collection.  In the foyer, he decorated the banister with the same type of garland and handmade plaid ornaments (Kathy Lee has plaid wallpaper in her living room).  On a table in the foyer he placed a feather tree with the same handmade ornaments and and candy dishes filled with colored candy.  Kathy Lee loved the design and gushed over the mantle.  Her guests thought it was stunning and Eddie was invited to stay with Kathy Lee for her party.

Holly Robinson Peete just moved into her new home maybe three months ago.  The living room is mostly bare, save for one table.  Designer Sandra (Sandy) Espinet realized this when she took on the job and brought in some beautiful pieces.  The Peetes spend a lot of time on the beach in Mexico and so Sandy went with a beach Christmas theme.  She filled candle holders with seashells and seashell napkin holders for the table.  She went very non-traditional and placed a large artificial golden tree on a sleigh in the corner for Holly.  Huge ornaments were hung from the tall ceiling to lower the room a bit and the room was peppered with artistic pieces from Morocco, Japan, Ethiopia, and many other countries.  The Peete’s absolutely loved the design.

I enjoyed the designs myself to look at and I got some ideas for my own home, but I’d never go to the same degree some of these designers went.  However, I am not famous, I don’t have oodles of money, and have no desire to pay for that kind of treatment.  Kudos to those who can though.  I’ll stick with my little tree that my cats chew on.
