The sweetness of Hank’s tattoo last week must have really gotten to Karen, as this week’s episode starts out with her and Hank in bed. Hank’s shocked to find that she didn’t even have an orgasm. He tries to talk her into staying in bed all day, but they have a lunch date to attend to, and she leaves him wanting in bed. They arrive at lunch with Felicia only to discover that Hank’s triple-threat sex trio from the semester are all there waiting for him.
Charlie and Marci are scheduled for open house, but just before the potential buyers arrive, Marci discovers Charlie having sex on the bedroom floor.
The two of them head out for lunch afterward, and Marci starts to hound on him about the girl he was sleeping with. Charlie asks her if she’s jealous, and though she admits to being jealous, she knows that he can’t be trusted. She’s good when she’s there, but out of sight, and Runkle wanders. In the middle of the conversation, Marci gets a call from their real estate agent about an offer on their house.
At the luncheon, Karen’s old professor, Richard Bates, arrives, and Hank is confused about Karen’s association with him. She starts talking about the affair she had with Bates when she was an undergrad. Hank’s jealousy flares a little when Karen admits that Bates was the first one to spur her desire for the writing type. The competition between Hank and Bates starts to flare, but then Stacy comes in dressed as a Civil War general and challenges Hank to a duel for defiling his wife. Felicia tells Hank he should play along.
Marci and Charlie talk about selling the house when it turns into a conversation about all the rooms they had sex. They discover they never had sex in the bathroom, and he convinces Marci to do it with him one last time. In the middle of sex, the sink breaks under Charlie’s weight. In the melee, she discovers the tattoo he got the week before of her name, and though she says it’s retarded, she admits it’s also sweet. Yay! There’s hope for Marci and Runkle yet. Or is there? The divorce papers arrive in the mail. Charlie starts to talk to her into turning the crappy parts of their life around and giving things another go, but Marci is convinced that there’s no way to avoid the crappy parts when it comes to the two of them together.
Stacy and Hank are head outside to duel and as soon as Stacy tries to shoot him, nothing happens. He calls Hank a pussy for not shooting him, then he finally shoots Hank with blanks. In the middle of the duel, Hank challenges Bates when Bates starts talking about having sex with Karen and full-on battle ensues. Later that night, Hank and Karen are at home, and when Karen starts coming on to Hank, he asks her if she’s only doing it because of her old crush on Bates, but in the end she draws him in.
There’s only one more episode left of this season of Californication. My hope? I’d love to see Marci and Charlie give it another go. Despite what she might think, they are so good together. With Karen and Hank getting closer and closer, one can only imagine what lies in store for them. We’ll have to tune in next Sunday to find out.
