Frosty’s Winter Wonderland is the animated sequel to Frosty The Showman This Christmas special is one of many Rankin/Bass specials created in the 1960s and 1970s that have become holiday classics. Frosty’s Winter Wonderland was produced in 1976 and has aired every year since.
Most of the characters from the original are nowhere to be found in the sequel. This includes Karen and the magician. Some new characters include; Crystal (Shelley Winters), Jack Frost (Paul Frees), and Parson Brown. Andy Griffith also joined the show as the narrator.
In the show, Frosty has become lonely at the North Pole. He travels down to see his friends again. When Jack Frost catches wind of the fun they are having, he becomes jealous and decides to ruin the fun. Frosty is still lonely with his friends. They decide to create him a wife, Crystal. The kids try everything to bring her to life, but nothing works. Frosty gives her a bouquet of flowers and she springs to life. The two have great fun together, until, Jack Frost blows the hat off Frosty’s head, freezing him.
Frosty is brought back to life by a flower Crystal has made for him. This implies that maybe it is not the hat that brought him to life but the flower in the hat. Crystal did come back to life after Frosty gave her flowers.
Frosty’s Winter Wonderland is a great family film. This is the kind of special kids love and parents remember watching as children. If you have a chance to catch this season, make sure to gather the entire family and have some good old fashioned family time in front of the TV. I know I will.
