On this week’s episode of ABC’s hit science fiction-drama FlashForward there was so many surprises and twists and turns in the story line that I have to say that this mid-season finale cliffhanger has to be the best of the fall shows I’ve seen so far.

To begin, you see it happening with Dr. Benford and Loyd Simcoe as they both acknowledge they have feeling or desires for each other. Ultimately the biggest cliffhanger is when Simcoe is abducted and Dr. Benford is left with his son. Surely she’ll end up bringing the child to live in her home until the boy’s father is found. And of course this will create a major issue in her marriage which will leave the door open for all types of great, and perhaps sad, story lines to come.

It won’t help that Mark was stupid enough to get himself fired from the FBI, especially when it was revealed that his wife Olivia basically put some of her biggest dreams aside so that he could pursue his own career as an FBI agent.

In this final episode we also learn that it will be Mark himself who will be the one to shoot and kill his partner and best friend Demetri – as seen in the future that is. I’m not a drinker, but I can’t think of anything much worse than killing your best friend to cause a person to start back drinking as Mark was doing in his flash forward.

As it turns out, the woman who knew who killed Demetri and when he was going to be killed  also knows the person who seems to be actually responsible for the blackout and FlashForward.  As far as end of season episodes go this has to be the best of the fall season so far. I personally can’t wait for next season of FlashForward to begin. Let’s just hope the plummeting ratings don’t frighten the network executives into cancelling yet another great show before it really gets started.
