In this week’s episode of CSI: NY the Compass Killer is tracked down and flushed out from underneath the sewers of the city where he lives. The team tracks him using heat seeking technology and police cameras which the Compass Killer ends up using more for his benefit than the CSI: NY team.  He ends up leading them off on a wild goose-chase by simply giving his jacket to another man who they then go after.

In his underground home they find the clue they need to discover who will be his next victim by a picture he left behind. It turns out that the Compass Killer’s last victim is going to be himself and he intends on killing himself because of his wife’s death.  It is finally learned that though the three people this psychotic man killed seemed random, they were actually all part of the reason why his wife was murdered.

Throughout this series the Compass Killer is speaking to a hallucination of his dead wife, yet in this final show he reveals that he knows that she is not real, yet he ends up listening to her when she tells him to give himself up and not kill himself.  Then in the very end he realizes what he has done and how wrong it was and breaks down from the pain of it all.

This was a surprisingly good ending to this series where the bad guy is shown to be truly just a disturbed, sick man who is doing bad things.  Gratefully he is not killed but is taken off the streets where he can get treated for his mental illness.

It was a strange episode, but a good one all the same.  So when the chase for the Compass Killer ended with no blood-shed but with a ton of emotions, it really was a fitting end to this particular CSI: NY story line.
