I love watching this show. I like a lot of shows, but I rarely love a show so much I look forward to watching the next one for the entire week.
This week’s The Good Wife was the best episode yet. The prostitute Peter had an affair with is going on talk shows and threatening to write a book. She calls Alicia’s workplace and tells people Peter wanted a “threesome” with Alicia and herself. Alicia goes to Peter in tears and tells him to make her stop. Peter and his lawyer bring in the prostitute to a meeting. She’s expecting a pay off but they threaten her, telling her she has no idea what Peter’s capable of to protect his family. The look on Peter’s face was terrifying and yet I was thrilled to finally see him stand up for his family and not for his career.
The prostitute had the gall to actually come to Alicia’s work and tell her Peter threatened her. In a beautiful performance by Julianna Marguilies, Alicia stayed calm, ignored her whining and even ignored her as she slammed her fists into the car screaming at her. It was actually a rather beautiful moment afterward when Alicia goes to her husband and kisses him for the first time since his incarceration.
While Peter’s dealing with this woman, Alicia is signed on to represent one of the partners, Jonas Stern, on a DUI charge. She finds out that Mr.
Stern didn’t drive drunk at all – he has dementia. He invokes lawyer-client privilege and says she cannot tell anyone or he’ll be forced to retire. Alicia manages to get the DUI dropped when she proves the cop didn’t report the preliminary breathalyzer test (it only showed 0.03). The firm’s partners gather to decide whether or not to oust Mr. Stern and he tells them they don’t have to oust him, he’s leaving of his own volition. He’s going to start a new firm, take all of his famous clients, then come back and take their clients. He offers Alicia a position, but she declines. Before he leaves, he gives her a tidbit of information without explanation – her husband was set up.
I was glued to the television for the full hour. So many questions left unanswered! Why was Peter set up? Who set him up? Is Alicia going to tell about Mr. Stern’s dementia? Will Alicia’s firm go bankrupt? I can’t wait to find out!
