On this week’s episode of Stargate Universe Dr. Rush is able to gain access to more of the ship and supervises an exploration of the new areas. They discover a chair that looks to be a device that can transfer information from the ship directly into a person’s mind. The problem is that they know from General O’Neal’s experience with a similar device that it carries the risk of killing the one who uses it.

Col. Young is against using the device until it can be proven to be safe. Dr. Rush is more than willing to make the attempt to use the device if it can help get them home, as long as it’s someone else who takes the risk.  Col.

Young makes it plain that Dr. Rush can sit the chair whenever he likes if he is so sure it will help their situation, as their personal rivalry continues. Col. Young’s disputes with Dr. Rush onboard the Destiny and with Col. Telford back on earth have turned out to be the most interesting aspects of Stargate Universe overall.

Lt. Scott returns to earth using the communications stones and discovers that he has an eight year old son that he knew nothing about. However, he is disappointed how the mother of his son is raising their child and her choice of employment, which appears to be a dancer in a night club. He transfers his monthly pay so that it goes to her and his son in hopes of giving her a chance at going back to school and getting her life back on track, but she rejects the idea, to his disappointment.

Camile also returns home using the communication stones where she spends time with her partner and we learn that she happens to be gay. There is obviously a rift between Camile and her parents when it is her partner who insists that she goes by to see them on her trip home. Camile’s reluctance seems justified as she visits her family but the conversation only last a few emotionless moments.

This was a typical episode of Stargate Universe where it concentrates on the people and how their lost in space adventure is affecting them and the people they’ve left back on earth. This is a sound episode which maintains a high the high level of drama that is the basis of this space adventure series.
