Alicia has a busy schedule this week on The Good Wife. Not only does she have to go to hearings for her husband, Peter, but she has to help do witness prep for an arson case.
Peter (Chris Noth) is up for an appeal and bail hearing. After much deliberation, Peter’s lawyer asks Alicia (Julianna Marguiles) to testify that Peter will be welcomed home if he gets bail. She reluctantly agrees and they put her on the stand. She makes the prosecution look like fools in front of the judge. Peter’s thrilled, until the Assistant District Attorney, who approached Peter earlier, sabotages him. Peter’s denied bail, but his appeal is in two weeks.
Meanwhile, Alicia’s firm has taken on an arson case. Professor Ellen Whitten supposedly set fire to her chemistry office which was doing in-depth cloning/stem cell research. She claims she would never do such a thing as she was right on the edge of a breakthrough that would qualify her for a fellowship at Cambridge. Alicia and Cary (Matt Czuchry) are forced to team up to do witness prep. Will and Diane hope their competitive natures will help make the witnesses perfect. They prep the receptionist at the professor’s facility and while she does wonderful in prep, the prosecution rips her to shreds on the stand.
Their last resort is a witness named Walt, a professor in the Physics department, who claimed he saw Ellen jogging on the track across from the recital hall. He said he was stepping out of a concert to call his mother when he saw her, then he saw the fire trucks. Because of Alicia’s and Cary’s questioning, they discover that Walt was actually the arsonist. He committed the act because he didn’t want Ellen to leave the university. He felt guilty that she was accused and decided to testify to help her.
This week, despite the important “Peter might be coming home!” vibe, it was a rather boring show. The most exciting part was when the children discover a DVD that may hold incriminating evidence of their Dad doing dirty deals and when they discover someone taking pictures of their front door. Now you out in Internet land all know I’m usually rather cheery and upbeat about the television shows I review. This episode was boring. I was fighting sleep halfway through.
Next week, however, looks like it’ll be an excellent show. Alicia finally gets the opportunity to meet the “other woman.” I hope she pops her in the nose!
