For those of us that didn’t go to culinary school, Thanksgiving is a rather large undertaking.  The Thanksgiving meal can be riddled with issues, especially for the inexperienced cook.  The Food Network decided to take pity on us and gave us Dear Food Network: Top 10 Thanksgiving Problems Solved.

10. Ultimate Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes can be a pain as they can be time consuming and labor intensive.  However, going through with making homemade mashed potatoes is worth it.  Giada De Laurentiis gave out her favorite mashed potato recipe which you can find here.

9. Quick Turkey Defrosting

I’m not sure if you knew (I certainly didn’t) but you can defrost a turkey the same day you have to prepare it.  You’ll need a large tub or a bucket, something that can allow for the turkey to be completely submerged.  Submerge the turkey in cool water and change the water every 20 minutes or so.  The turkey should defrost!

How do you brine a turkey?

Brining a turkey takes some preparation and time, at least 12 hours.   However, brining a turkey can yield wonderful rich flavors in addition to making the turkey extra juicy.  Food Network’s Alex Guarnaschelli gives a lovely turkey brine recipe that I know I’m dying to try.

7. How do you carve a turkey?

Cut against the grain of the turkey and cut away from you after the turkey has been resting for at least 15 minutes.  Carving a turkey can be dangerous, especially if you don’t know how.  Make sure you have a sharp knife!  Dull knives are more dangerous than sharp ones!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the stuffing.  I’m not sure if Anne Burrell’s Sausage Cornbread Stuffing is as good as my mom’s, but I’m sure willing to find out!

4. How do you deep fry a turkey?

Deep frying is VERY dangerous but can give you a wonderfully juicy bird.  The best turkey frying kit I’ve seen, consisting of of a folding ladder and two pulleys, was invented by Alton Brown.  Ted Allen says you should use this frying kit in his Deep Fried Turkey recipe.

3. Yummy Green Bean Casserole

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the Green Bean CasseroleClaire Robinson’s Family Fresh Green Bean Casserole looks perfect for the holidays.

2. How do you make cranberry sauce?

Some families prefer the cranberry jelly in a can, but I know mine prefers fresh cranberry sauce.  This recipe sounds simple and tasty!

1. Pumpkin Pie

At the end of every Thanksgiving meal should be a pumpkin pie ready for consumption.  Tyler Florrence took pumpkin pie a step further and gives us this recipe for Pumpkin Banana Meringue Pie.  Sounds lovely!
