CSI Miami opens with an SUV crashing into a Bentley and the mother being instantly killed on the spot while her two teenage children have to be rushed to the hospital. The poor father bares the brunt of the allegations throughout this show and the actor’s performance was spectacular.
The CSI team first concludes that the mother was driving and that she had been under the influence of alcohol at the time which is what caused the wreck. Her widowed husband vehemently denies the accusation and as it turned out he was right. This time the forensic evidence didn’t uncover the truth the first time around because they tested the woman’s blood post-mortem and it gave a false positive on the level of alcohol in her bloodstream.
Next, the CSI: Miami team believes that it was the son who was driving and caused the wreck because of the tread mark of his shoes matched the mark left on the break pads. This too turned out to be false and eventually it’s discovered that it was the daughter who was driving during the accident because their mother had forgotten her glasses. The accident is started by an alligator crossing the road right in front of her which she swerves to avoid, but wasn’t able to regain control before crashing into the car ahead of them.
Further investigation leads them to look under the hood to find a power steering fluid hose that had been cut. This was the key determining factor behind the teenage girl not to being able to regain control of the SUV. This leads them to accuse the father as they reveal to this poor man that his dead wife was cheating on him, something that the husband genuinely knew nothing about.
In the end it turns out that the teenage boy stuck a bag of marijuana under the hood in an attempt to sneak it passed his parents. He used his pocket knife to wedge it deep into the motor area and in doing so cut the fluid line. This was easily the most tragic episode of CSI: Miami you will ever see. This was also a very well written and played out mystery that just breaks your heart in the end.
