Roseanne Barr was born November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Helen and Jerry Barr. Roseanne claims that she and her siblings where mentally and sexually abused as children, however, her siblings and parents deny any abuse.  She dropped out of school at 17 and worked odd jobs as a window dresser and waitress, before she became famous.  In 1971, she gave birth to Brandi Brown, who was put up for adoption.  In 1974, Barr married Bill Pentland and had 3 children, Jessica, Jennifer, and Jake.  Roseanne and Bill stayed married until 1990. Shortly after her divorce, she married Tom Arnold. They divorced in 1994.  She then married Ben Thomas and had another child. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2002.

Rosanne was thrust into fame after her appearance on The Tonight show with Johnny Carson, 1n 1985.  She had a short lived show on HBO called, On Location: The Roseanne Barr Show.

In 1989, she performed along side of Meryl Streep and Ed Begley, Jr. in movie She-Devil.

Fame really hit Roseanne when ABC picked up her sitcom, Roseanne. The show ran for nine seasons and won various awards. Roseanne played an overweight mom in a working class family. This would be the role that made Roseanne a household name. The show dealt with real life issues that families face everyday. As the title character, Roseanne played opposite comedian John Goodman. America was drawn to the show and to Roseanne. Her fame hit a sour note, after her performance of “The Star Spangle Banner,” at a baseball game. Roseanne did recover and fans still tuned it to watch the show.

Roseanne has become an American classic, influencing many other TV shows. You can still see reruns on TV Land.  Roseanne Barr received an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work on Roseanne. She has also won a Kids Choice Award, three American Comedy Awards and six People’s Choice Awards.

After the show ended, she studied the Kabballah, a form of Jewish mysticism.  She had a short lived talk show.  She also still does some stand up comedy, as well as some guest spots for TV shows. Currently, Roseanne Barr Pentland Arnold Thomas lives in El Sequndo, California. She is trying to spend more time with her four children and blogging, you can check out her blog here.
