Dancing With The Stars is trucking right along into the quarterfinals. With only five couples left, there is no room for error. This week the couples had to perform two solo dances. The first dance was a traditional ballroom dance and the second was a time period themed Latin number.
Mya and Dmitry started the show with a fast, fun Quick Step. Mya has always been a leader on the boards and dances flawlessly. They received a 29, from the judges.
The second couple to dance was Aaron and Karina, with a Fox Trot. This dance was kind of jerky. Not quite the smooth Fox Trot we are used to. They received a 23.
Another Quick Step was performed by Joanna and Derek.
This dance was OK, but not great. The footwork was off at times and there were a few missteps. They scored a 23 as well.
Kelly and Louis performed a beautiful Fox Trot, which was fun and elegant. They received a 25 from the judges.
Donny and Kym closed out the ballroom section with a Viennese Waltz. This dance was mesmerizing. It has to be one of my favorites from Donny. They scored a 26.
The next section of dances was the time period themed Latin dances. This was sure to be a spectacle. The costumes were a sight to behold, for sure. It will be along time before the image Donny and Kym, as Adam Ant and Cyndi Lauper on acid, is wiped from my brain.
Mya and Dmitry were again up first. They performed a 70’s style Samba. This was a perfect dance. The first perfect 30 of the season, leaving them with at 59 total score.
Aaron and Karina had fun with a 90’s style Samba. It was very reminiscent of boy bands everywhere. They received a 27, for a total score of 50.
Joanna and Derek went out on a limb with a futuristic Paso Doble. This dance was cool and collected. It looked like a mutated version of a classic. They scored 29 giving them an overall score of 52.
Kelly and Louie preformed a weird 60’s themed Jive. This dance was fun and light, however, there were a couple of missteps. They scored a 26, giving them a 51 total.
Donny and Kim ended the Latin dances with a crazy, bizarre, glam-rock version of the Paso Doble. I was so distracted by the costumes, I am not even sure they were dancing. Their score was a 24, giving them an overall score of 50.
The two men left are in the bottom two after the judges’ scores, but who knows, the audience could change things around. At this point I think that Mya is going to take the Mirrored ball with Joanna Nipping at her heals. I could be all off and Donny could win the whole thing.
