In this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy the doctors are awakened in the middle of the night with multiple emergencies. Arizona’s patient is pregnant and her child has to be taken in order to save both their lives. Fresh off of that emergency, the condition of one of Arizona’s beloved 10-year-old patient who she has managed to help stay alive for almost three years goes critical.

His parents are offering a $25 million donation to the hospital in gratitude for Arizona’s miraculous work with their son’s condition thus far.  When his condition worsen’s Arizona believes the best course of action is to not operate because the boy is simply too weak and she fears he will not live through the surgery.

Yet she is pressured to do the surgery by the boy’s parents and the hospital’s top brass, mainly because of the $25 million donation that hangs in the balance.

Arizona ultimately agrees to do the surgery despite her reservations about the potential outcome. Callie throws her a surprise birthday party not knowing that the child does die and that Arizona is emotionally torn up about the loss. Arizona ends up breaking down and crying in front of all the party guests and then runs out the apartment to be alone.

Alex, still distraught over Izzie leaving him, bonds with the baby that was born premature and accidentally discovers a little known technique for holding the baby that ends up saving the child’s life.

Cristina defies Owen and breaks hospital protocol by performing a surgery to save a patient’s life. Later, at Arizona’s disastrous birthday party, a romantic encounter involving Cristina and one of the new residences from Mercy West entices viewers with some prime speculations for future episodes.

There is a reason that Grey’s Anatomy continues to bring in a viewing audience of over 16 million each week. This episode, like the entire series, maintains a very high level of drama and human emotion that pulls at the soul. Now, with Izzie ready to make her return to the show in the next episode, it only fuels the fire of anticipation as the series creator Shonda Rhymes continue to blindside us with surprise storyline moves.
