This week on the hit crime drama Criminal Minds the plot provides an exceptionally weird case about a deranged man who kills people specifically to steal their eyes. As far as unique content, Criminal Minds has always pushed the envelope and still remained realistic no matter how bizarre the plot.  This episode is no different, making it one of the best episodes ever aired.

The show is entitled “The Eyes Have It,” and it is about a mentally disturbed man whose mother lost her eyesight from a rare medical condition. From an early age the boy became fixated on eyes, going as far as trying to gouge out another student’s eyes with his bare hands, and as a result he was thrown out of the school system.

When his father dies the boy, now a man, has no idea how to survive on his own.

The home he lived in is foreclosed on and the family taxidermy business falls apart, triggering this guy to literally lose his mind. His killing spree is set in motion when a customer doesn’t like the eyes used on his animal. The man angrily tells him he can’t do eyes right which leads to him being killed.

From there the mentally unbalanced man goes from gouging out the eyes of his victims to filing down a metal spoon to a curved sharp edge so that he can literally scoop-out his victims eyes. The Criminal Minds team at first assumes he man is taking the victims’ eyes out merely to destroy them, and then they realize he is keeping their eyes. It’s only in the very end they realize he is using human eyes in his taxidermy jobs by putting them in the eye sockets of animals to make them look right.

They eventually are able to track this menace down based on his killing pattern and are able to save a victim just before she has her eyes scooped out. Overall, I would have to grade this episode as an “A” because of the uniqueness of the killer and the way the entire bizarre storyline is still made to make total, believable sense.
