On this week’s episode of, The Big Bang Theory, Leonard and his friends are on their way to a kite fighting competition when they run into Leonard’s girlfriend Penny in the hall. After inviting her to come along Penny tells Leonard that she and some of her friends are going to be watching the Nebraska football game, so she can’t make it. By the strained look on her face it is obvious the last thing Penny wants to do is go fly kites with the boys.

After she leaves Leonard is disappointed and then realizes that he has never seen any of Penny’s friends. He begins to think that she is ashamed of him and doesn’t want her friends to know she goes out with a nerdy genius.

Leonard and Sheldon win the kite flying contest by default after Howard runs off to chase after a girl in the park who he “thinks” smiled at him, just as he and Koothrappali are about to execute a scissor move to win the contest. Sheldon’s behavior is a recurring theme that has gotten Koothrappali angry with him.

After the kite flying game Leonard confronts Penny about her never inviting him to her apartment when her friends are around and learns that she doesn’t invite him because she assumed he would be bored watching football. She then invites him to the next game and we learn that Leonard knows nothing about the game of football. He turns to Sheldon to teach him about the game so he can fit in with Penny’s friends.

During the game Leonard inevitably shows himself to be as big of a nerd as ever, despite his extra large football jersey, he sticks out like a sore thumb during the game party. Penny does feel awkward with his geeky comments and it turns out that just as she predicted he is absolutely bored by the game and jumps at the chance to leave at half time.

This was another solid episode of The Big Bang Theory that keeps with the geeky theme of the show and the comedy remains solid.
