Last week the TAR teams faced their fear of heights and water. In this episode, The Amazing Race teams finally leave Dubai and head to Amsterdam. One team refuses to stop trying, while another team gives up. Who is going to let the race beat them?
Meghan and Cheyne lead the pack as they leave the pit stop. They are sent to Amsterdam, to find a 19 mile causeway with a statue. There was only one flight so all the teams were able to catch up. In Amsterdam, cars were waiting for the teams. Erika and Brain could not put the car in drive. They asked for help from some other people around. They discovered you couldn’t put the car in drive with the door open. Again I realize that these contestants are lacking in the brain department.
From the statue, the teams are sent to a giant bell tower called, “Martinitoren.” At the bell tower there is a road block. One member of each team must claim the tower and count all the bells. They then must take the number to a man that is playing the bells in the tower. The total was 62. Ericka Dunlap counted the bells at least four times. She had to take a break, then she finally got the number right.
Everyone had to drive to a windmill, to learn about the detour, farmer’s dance or farmer’s game. In farmer’s dance, the teams must dress in traditional Dutch clothing, ride bikes to a creek, swim across and play a round of farmer’s golf. In the game, the clubs were wooden clogs on sticks and the balls were huge. The teams had to score an eight or less on three holes.
In the farmer’s dance, the teams wore traditional clothes, rode bikes to a barn, rang a bell with a carnival type strong man game, learned a traditional dance and ate salted herring and onions. The clothes were so funny. Each team needed a female and male costume. Sam and Dan hit the golf first and made quick work of it. Maria and Tiffany started at the dance but could not ring the bell, so they headed to the golf. They got discouraged at the golf and went back to the dance. After 74 tries, the girls still could not ring the bell. They went back to the golf. This allowed Brain and Erika a chance to catch up; however they did not get the bikes in the beginning and had a 30 min penalty at the pit stop. The teams came in as follows:
1st Place: Sam and Dan
2nd Place: Meghan and Cheyne
3rd Place: Flight Time and Big easy
4th Place: Gary and Matt
5th Place: Brian and Erika
Maria and Tiffany quit the race.
It was really great to see Brian support Erika today. He was understanding and patient. Maria and Tiffany wore themselves out with all the switching. You could tell they were just exhausted. Next week the teams have some exploding to do.
