This week on Syfy channel’s new hit science fiction series Stargate Universe, the episode, “Water,” deals with a mysterious disappearance of the crew’s water supply. What makes it so mysterious is that the water is kept under lock and key with armed military guarding the entrance, yet each time they check on the supply huge amounts of water come up missing.
Despite the fact that no one has an answer to how the water is disappearing it still doesn’t change the fact that the water supply is getting dangerously low. On top of all that, Dr. Rush learns that despite Destiny flying itself into a sun to recharge its solar energy supply, the ancient spaceship is only able to recharge its energy reserves up to 40% of original capacity. This means that the ship doesn’t have enough power to dial the stargate back to earth.
This leaves them desperate for water and they have to come up with a plan to locate potable water before the situation becomes critical. The Destiny drops out of hyper-space near a planet that is locked in the middle of an ice age. The atmosphere of the planet is toxic but they have no choice other than tovisit the planet to discover if there is drinkable water. Colonel Young and First Lieutenant Scott go to the planet to begin the search. They have to find drinkable water before Destiny jumps back into hyperspace.
Aboard the ship they discover that the strange dusty-like beings that helped Scott on the desert planet managed to get aboard the ship when they stargated back from the planet. These swarming creatures, they discover, are drinking the water supply in huge amounts and their numbers are growing.
Lieutenant Tamara comes up with a plan to get them off the ship by luring them in a container filled with water and sending them through the stargate to the ice planet. Her plan works and despite Lieutenant Scott falling through a crack in the ice sheet on the planet surface and nearly being killed, they are able to retrieve enough water to keep the crew going, at least for a little longer.
This was an intense episode of Stargate Universe where we see a lot of tension still being evident throughout the crew. Bonds are constantly being forged and broken as they continue to deal with their desperate situation.
