It’s Halloween and the Ghost Hunters live special had paranormal fans tuning in and logging on for a night of ghost hunting. This year’s Halloween special was disappointing to me because we didn’t watch the team investigate. They set up cameras and people could watch the cameras online to see if they saw or heard anything. They also did a recap of the five scariest episodes of Ghost Hunters, as voted on by the viewers.
The show started with host Josh Gates explaining how the night would go. The investigation was in Essex County Hospital in New Jersey. The hospital was a mental institution from 1895 till 2007, and it is estimated that over 10,000 people died in the hospital.
The countdown of the top five episodes started with number five, The USS Salem and Cornwall Jail. Throughout the night we saw clips of the top five episodes. In fourth place was St. Augustine Lighthouse. The Bird Cage Theater in Tombstone, Arizona, came in third. Leap Castle took second place and first place went to Eastern State Penitentiary.
Steve and Tango were brought in to investigate some strange sounds and movement. All were deemed natural. Steve, Tango, Jason and Grant answered viewer questions throughout the night. My favorite question of the night was about using an Ouija board; Jason explained how dangerous they can be. Josh interviewed the members of the Ghost hunters Academy: Susan, Ben, Karl, Chris and Heather. We got sneak peeks of the new show and Steve seems like a tyrant. Steve and Tango went down to the tunnels to investigate some noises. They heard the noises and were not able to debunk them. Steve and Tango went out at different times to see what they could find. One of the funniest moments was when Dave and Steve climbed into the bottom two drawers in the morgue and lay in them on their stomachs, watching.
With the change in show style, viewers got a chance to experience an investigation first hand. This new style or absence of Jason and Grant didn’t seem to mater much. Josh reported that the panic button was hit 415,000 times in the six hour show. Although this was different, if you come trick-or-treating at my house, you will still find me on the couch watching the Halloween special next year.
