Just in time for Halloween, Josh Gates and the Destination Truth team head to Romania to see if they can find evidence of the existence of the centuries’ old legendary werewolf. Afterwards, they’re south of the border once again in the Atacama desert, and this time they’re hunting dinosaurs.

Romanian Werewolves

Werewolves and Romania practically go hand in hand, so when Josh and the crew were afforded the opportunity to head to Europe and track down the mysterious canine beast, you know they couldn’t refuse. Reports of werewolves prowling the forests have Romanian locals terrified to leave their homes after sunset, and this is confirmed by the owner of a Romanian bed and breakfast where the team spent the night before kicking off their investigation

After setting up base camp, the team head into the woods in search of caverns and evidence to support claims of werewolf activity in an abandoned Romanian village.

Frigid weather puts Jael out of action, but not before she and Bicha discover strange prints in the snow and tag Josh to come back up and make a cast for further investigation. Aside from two eyes in the darkness, a mysterious howl in the night and occasional unexplained movement in the woods, the team returns to the states after their investigation with their casted footprints and seeks out expert advice to identify the prints.

Their expert determines that while the prints are definitely canine, and probably in line with a large breed of Romanian wolf, the size of the back footprint is nearly a foot in length. This would suggest something much larger than the ordinary wolf, but what that may be, nobody knows for sure.

Chilean Arica Monsters

The Atacama Desert of Chile has been home to some pretty strange phenomenon over the years, from UFO sightings to dinosaurs. Yes, you heard me correctly… dinosaurs. The Arica Monster is a velociraptor-like dinosaur that has been spotted in the desert valleys, described by locals as a large, three toed creature straight out of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park.

After an airplane fiasco waiting to happen, Josh and the team decide to explore the desert via quads, and quickly after entering into the dusty terrain, Josh locates a unique print in the hills. They cast it for further investigation, and continue on their search. Setting up base camp, the sun sets and the crew splits up to explore the dangerous, rocky valley. They discover some scat and a gnawed on paw, and then find themselves being stalked. They chase down an unseen creature into a section of river, but lose track of it.

Returning to the states to have their evidence analyzed, Josh meets with a paleontologist who identifies the casted print from Arica as that of an Iguanodon, and explains that it is likely that what’s stalking the desert isn’t a dinosaur, but one of its avian ancestors.

Next week, Josh and the Destination Truth team return to Nepal to continue the hunt for the Abominable Snowman. As the weather is turning colder here in the northern hemisphere, and we get closer to the holiday seasons, here’s hoping they find a “bumble,” and he turns out to be as nice as the one Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and Hermie the Dentist found on their travels.
