This week on The Biggest Loser, the contestants were forced to face-off with one contestant from the other team. Emotional breakthroughs were made by a few contestants, which had me in tears. Most of this season’s contestants have serious emotional issues.

The episode started with a challenge. In this challenge, one player from each team hit a disk that went under a bar and hit another disk.  For every two disks hit, the team received one point. The team that reached 500 points first won the challenge and got to chose who they would face-off against. At the weigh-in the player with the highest percentage wins one point for their team.

The team that gets three points wins the weigh-in. The blue team won the challenge and chose the following face-off pairs.

Blue Team: Rebecca, Tracy, Allen, Rudy and Liz

Black Team: Amanda, Abby, Danny, Shay and Daniel

The teams hit the workouts with their competitors in mind. If Rudy loses 13 pounds this week he will beat the current Biggest Loser record of losing 100 pounds the fastest.

The teams headed to a baseball field for the next challenge. Derek Jeter joined in via video to introduce the challenge. Life-sized posters of all the contestants were  placed on the field, along with 2,535 balls on the ground.  It turns out that 2,535 is the number of hits Derek Jeter made during his first season in the majors. The teams had to carry the balls to the posters and chunk them in a box. When a contestant received 316 balls in their box, they were out.

The Black Team had a strategy of filling up the biggest competition first, which proved to be a great strategy. One by one they knocked out the heavy hitters and won the challenge. As a reward, the team received lunch with chef Curtis Stone and a two pound advantage at the next weight-in. At the workout, we heard about Abby’s heart wrenching story and how Shay grew up with her heroin addicted mom, hiding in the closet while her mother had men in their hotel room. This broke my heart. No child should ever have to go through that.

At the weigh-in the teams were ready to face-off.

Blue Team: Rebecca -9 lbs (1 pt), Tracey -5 lbs (1 pt), Allen -8 lbs, Liz -7 lbs (1 pt), Rudy -14 lbs

Black Team: Amanda -4 lbs, Abby -3 lbs, Danny -12 lbs (1 pt & immunity), Daniel -5 lbs, Shay -9 lbs

Blue Team wins the weigh-in and Rudy breaks the record for losing 100 pounds the fastest. Abby asks the Black Team to send her home and they did.

At the follow up, Abby has lost 80 pounds and has started speaking to teachers and students about decisions and second chances. She says she is living for the first time since her family died.
