The Travel Channel could not contain all of the extraordinary haunts in one show. As a result, America Haunts 2 was made! We’ll visit four spooky, scary haunted houses is this installment that are located mainly in the Midwest.
We’ll start with Creepyworld in Saint Louis, Missouri. This intense experience would be considered a scream park as it’s made up of many haunted houses in one location. The lot it’s located on used to be a community swimming pool but was abandoned for some time. Creepyworld is known in haunted house circles for its huge attention to detail within its walls. If you’re looking for a good scream, Creepyworld may be for you!
Dream Reapers in Chicago, Illinois, has been nominated eight times for the best haunted house in the state. The actors are rather intense, chasing patrons around the parking lot as they wait to get in. What is really intriguing about Dream Reapers is they make and manufacture their own haunted house smells including “Gothic cave,” “rotten flesh,” and “oil fuel.”
Also in Missouri is The Beast, located in Kansas City. Housed in the original John Deere factory, The Beast is unique in several ways. It’s a family run organization run all by women that also has live animals on staff, including a 220 pound anaconda snake. There is nothing to guide you along the way, you choose your own adventure, and can get lost within the walls for hours. This haunted house is more my style as it relies on startles and surprises for its screams, not gore.
This Halloween in Denver, Colorado, be sure to check out The 13th Floor. The building has had many occupations, including being a vocational school, and is now considered haunted. The owners of The 13th Floor had a paranormal investigation into the building and five EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) have been recorded there. The 13th Floor doesn’t just entertain its patrons inside with its use of distractions to scare, it also entertains outside with a fire dancer and a hanging contortionist in the waiting room.
If you’re all about spooks and scares, be sure to check these haunted houses out. As for me, I’ll be hiding under my bed until Sunday!
