This episode of  Survivor: Samoa was like no other. We only saw one challenge and it was canceled.  We mostly watched the tribes try to survive a freezing rain and watched as the medical team tried to work on one survivor.

As we started, the tribes have lived through five straight days in the rain. Everyone is miserable and cranky. Russell S. from Galu was fishing, making a fire and doing work around the camp as everyone else sat in the shelter. The rain stopped briefly and the tribes were off to a challenge.

This week both teams would go to the tribal council and vote someone out. The winner of the challenge would eat pizza at the council, in front of the other team. For the challenge, one team member from each tribe was strapped into a wooden sphere while two blindfolded tribe mates pushed them trough a path, as they shouted directions. Once at the finish line, the two blindfolded tribe mates would join two more blind folded tribe mates and complete a table maze.  Foa Foa reached the finish line first and began their maze.  Galu made it to the finish, but Russell S. was disoriented and winded. He made it to the table maze only to pass out on the maze. This was scary.  He was hanging there like an old rag doll. The host, Jeff Probst, stopped the challenge and called in the medical team. Russell came to but then passed out again.

Jeff canceled the challenge and sent the teams away. Medical tried to work on Russell. After he passed out yet again, his heart rate plummeted. Medical had to pull him from the game. This was devastating. He felt like he let everyone down. Jeff tried to lift his spirits. You could tell Jeff was scared.

At tribal, the teams were updated on Russell’s condition. He was being treated and doing much better. Foa Foa took today as a victory, since they were ahead when Russell went down. Galu was just angered at this and voted to fight every challenge for Russell. Jeff canceled the vote. Galu was given Russell’s tribal chief necklace and told to assign someone else as their leader.

This installment of survivor was intense. I was truly scared for him. Jeff said he was the most scared he has ever been on any Survivor. I hope that Foa Foa will take this chance to come back on Galu. But then again, I am a sucker for the underdog.
