Halloween is a time for family togetherness, trick-or-treating, and thrill seekers.  The Travel Channel went out on a search to document the most extreme Halloween experiences, not just the scary, but stuff for everyone.

The Headless Horseman Hayride in Ulster, New York, is widely considered the scariest hayride in the business.  With its use of a real rider and horse for the Headless Horseman, it’s no wonder it has such recognition.  The hayride has 13 different sets involved.  All of the actors are scripted and with the use of misdirection with lighting, the pyrotechnics involved are even more scary.

If you’re not interested in being scared, Dell’osso Farms in Lathrop, California, has a 25 acre corn maze for you to get lost in.  Roughly the size of the Pentagon, this corn maze brings around 100,000 folks to visit each year.  Each year the design is different, so check it out!

Also for the faint of heart is the New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off.  No spooks or scares here, just super heavy pumpkins.  This is a weight contest, not a size contest.  Two lifting teams lift the lighter pumpkins for weight but once they get super heavy, a rig is pulled in.  Joe Jutras once won with a pumpkin weighing over 1600 lbs!

The Netherworld in Atlanta, Georgia, is more for those who like to be scared.  With over 175 actors and over 100 animatronic beasts in its walls, this show aims to scare.  The haunted house is a continuous flow of hallways that relies on the element of surprise for its screams.  Don’t get too disoriented in the the 20ft spinning tunnel!

The Halloween Outlet in Worcester, Massachusetts,  is for those who love shopping.  It’s the world’s largest Halloween superstore with over 1/2 million products to choose from.  They even have a make-up artist on site to help with your costume needs.  In New York city Hugh McMahon is there for your pumpkin shopping needs.  This professional carver carves over 300 pumpkins a season and some even sell for over $1500.  Tom Nardone is another carver, but on the other end of the spectrum from Hugh.  His creations are often twisted, disturbing and very extreme.  Who else would make a conjoined twins pumpkin?

Las Vegas is the home of extremes and Halloween is no exception.  The Fright Dome not only has five haunted houses, but also contains an full indoor theme park and over 25 attractions.  Spanning over five acres, this theme park has a roller coaster, a haunted log flume, and even a freak show with live people, not effects.

The most extreme and intense haunted house has to be none other than The House of Shock in New Orleans.  It’s considered the black sheep of the haunted house community as it ramps up its attraction with freak shows, piercing demonstrations, and death metal bands.  Some of its scares were so controversial that the local churches tried to shut it down, claiming the owners were trying to convert kids to Satanism.  That’s got to be one intense experience!
