In this weeks episode of CSI: NY, the team investigates the death of a competitive street dancer named Jesse who was shot and killed in his hotel room. The initial investigation of the body revealed that he had been shot, but there was no exit wound and no bullet found in the body.

The scene opens with the victim’s girlfriend stumbling out of the elevator with blood streaming from her head and splattered over her hand and fingers. She is just able to ring the bell at the counter before she collapses, which brings help and eventually saves her life.

Once the investigation team gets to the scene, they find what appears to be a robbery that has gone bad.  However, the odd part about it, if it was a robbery, is the fact that the robber didn’t take any money. The team finds a video showing that Jesse and the dancer who came in second during the last competition got into a skirmish after the contest. The focus of the investigation then turns to his competition believing it may have been a crime based on jealousy.  They suspect Jesse’s competition wanted him gone so that he would then be the top dancer and earn top prize money and respect in the industry.

That hypothesis goes awry as well when the team learns that the couple had been robbed of prize money only a few months earlier, but the robber wasn’t charged because Jesse could not or would not identify him. This makes them think that the robber might have come back to rob them a second time, considering he knew they wouldn’t testify against him.

The storyline takes a pretty sad turn as it is revealed that Jesse’s best friend, Nate, is the person who shot and killed him. The scene was staged by Jesse and Nate using what they thought were fake bullets that were not dangerous, but they mistakenly used the wrong type of bullets.

A distraught Nate explains they did it because Jesse was ashamed that he did not stand up to the robber when he and his girlfriend Brooke were robbed the first time.  The whole staged scene was all centered on redeeming Jesse in Brooke’s eyes.

This was very good bit of writing and acting in this particular CSI: NY episode. The tragic conclusion made this episode well above average.
