What if you were to take a vacation to a destination outside the norm? The Travel Channel has put together a list of 10 creepy destinations for you to consider for your next trip.
10. The Bermuda Triangle
Right off the coast of the little island of Bimini is the wreck of the Sapona, where Flight 19 disappeared without a trace. Bimini is also the location of the Bimini road, a series of stones under the water that look like a road. Some say it leads to the lost continent of Atlantis.
9. Hollywood, California
Hollywood is rich with history and is said to be one of the most haunted cities in America. It contains the Roosevelt Hotel, where Montgomery Cliff’s ghost practices his trumpet in room 928 and Marilyn Monroe shows her pretty face in the lobby.
8.
England’s Tower of London is the oldest palace and prison in Europe and it’s the home to some royal ghosts. The beheaded queen, Anne Boleyn, sometimes walks from the queen’s house, her head tucked under her arm.
7. Mutter Museum
The Mutter Museum of Philadelphia houses strange collections of diseased body parts, plaster molds of abnormalities, and a fun collection of things people have swallowed. It even has a plaster mold of conjoined twins!
6. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
The battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the civil war and to this day ghosts roam the fields, still fighting. Tours take place day and night. If you’re lucky, you may have your own experience.
5. New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is a great party city, but it also houses voodoo museums and above ground cemeteries. If you’re up to it, go visit Lafitte’s Blacksmith shop where local legend says the original owner will haunt the place until his treasure is found.
4. Salem, Massachusetts
Salem is mostly known for the Salem Witch trials. 19 people were hanged and 1 crushed to death during this horrible time. The gallows hill is said to be haunted with the spirits who were hanged but not given a proper burial.
3. Area 51
In 1989, a scientist came forth stating he’d worked on a UFO at Area 51. The government denied its existence until 1995. While you can’t actually go near the compound, you can go to the nearby town of Rachel and stay at the A’Le’Inn.
2. Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California
A psychic told Sara Winchester she needed to build a house and keep building or the spirits of the dead would get her like they got her husband and daughter. She built the Winchester House, filled with strange features. Inside the house you will find 40 bedrooms, 6 kitchens, only 1 shower, doors that open to nowhere, windows that open up to show you walls, and ghosts of workers still building the house.
1. Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, Massachusetts
Here you can sleep in the room where Lizzie’s stepmother was hacked to death, or sit on the couch where they found Lizzie’s dead father. Not only is it steeped in gruesome history, but the B & B is also said to be haunted.
