The latest episode of NCIS, entitled “Code of Conduct,”  opens with a group of teenagers playing a prank on a neighbor on Halloween night by tossing toilet tissue in the tree of his front yard.

They spot the biggest neighborhood prankster, a thirty-something year old Marine Lance Corporal named James Korby sitting in his parked car while it is still running. The windows are rolled up and the inside is filled with smoke so they think he is smoking something to get high. Once they discover a garden hose taped to the rear exhaust and extended into the car window they realize he isn’t partying, he is dead.

The NCIS team is called in to check out what looks to be a suicide, but they soon discover that it is anything but.

The victim’s body begins to crack like it is brittle once he is removed from the car. On closer inspection the team discovers that Korby was murdered – his organs were frozen by using liquid nitrogen. It becomes obvious his suicide was staged.

There are two suspects that immediately stand out, with the most common being the spouse of the deceased. After the NCIS team investigates her background they discover that she has been married to three marines, all of whom are now dead leaving behind big life insurance policies.

The other is a private singer that was in the same unit as the victim. It is widely known that Korby and Singer didn’t get along and this guy literally looks hardcore enough that he could be capable of killing anybody. As it turned out, it is discovered that Singer and Korby’s wife were having an affair.

In the end it is the person you would least expect. Korby and his wife adopted a girl name Rachel who simply didn’t want to wait for her insurance money from her father’s death, which she would have access to anyway when she turned 25 years old. So she chose to kill her stepfather and then attempted to frame her stepmother so she could get her hands on the money sooner.

This was a great episode of NCIS because there were a number of suspects who potentially could have committed the murder and it was a big surprise to find out who actually did the crime.
