31-year-old Adam Jasinski, former winner of the CBS reality TV series Big Brother, was arrested and charged after attempting to sell massive quantities of oxycodone to an undercover government official in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Jasinski transported and then revealed two plastic bags filled with the highly addictive prescription drug. Later when officials tried to arrest Jasinski, he attempted to flee, after tossing the sock he used to transport the drug under a car. During questioning, Jasinski admitted to using the $500,000 he won from cycle nine of Big Brother to buy oxycodone, and had been dealing the drug regularly along the east coast for several months.
If convincted, Jasinski could face a maximum twenty-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $1 million. Prior to his stint on reality tv, Jasinski worked as a PR agent for a foundation for mentally challenged children, and also had his own clothing line.
Oxycodone is a highly addictive, opium-derived, Schedule II prescription painkiller that can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription. Because of the drugs addictive nature, it is difficult to obtain, but in the last decade, oxycodone and its time-release counterpart, OxyContin, have become a popular street drug due to the euphoric side-effects.
