Like the past 19 years, The Simpsons did not disappoint viewers with the newest installment of The Treehouse of Horror. This episode was a combination of many skits that made fun of various movies and genres. I get giddy as a schoolgirl every time the Treehouse of Horror comes on, and the 20th anniversary episode had me beside myself with glee.

The Treehouse of Horror XX opened with a werewolf, Dracula, a mummy and Frankenstein walking the streets of Springfield. They go to a Simpsons party and start making out with the local skanks, such as Ms. Krabapple and Marge’s sisters. The wives of the old school monsters arrive and begin to unleash fury upon their cheating husbands when Homer comes to their side with a great line, “it’s not cheating if you’re wearing a costume.” The wives cut off his head, it flies into the punch bowl, and his eyes are two X’s.

Awesome!

The first skit was in black and white, starting with Lisa getting detention for yelling at Mrs. Hoover. Bart and Lisa concocted a plan to prank each other’s teacher. Lisa does a “ding dong ditch” to Ms. Krabapple and Bart kills Mrs. Hoover. Bart tells Lisa she must kill Ms. Krabapple. She was about to do it with a paper cutter, but Ms. Krabapple turned around at the last minute. Lisa decides to kill Bart. They go through a series of strange lands before landing back into the school yard where Lisa makes it look like an accident. This is a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock.

The next skit was a weird cannibal zombie “28 Days Later” tribute. A Krusty Burger turns the town into zombies. The Simpsons are locked in their own house. Bart sneaks out to get food. They discover that he is immune to the Krusty Burger disease. Of course they have to get out of town to a safe zone. As they are leaving, Homer pulls one of his stunts and the whole town converges on them. Just about every character on the show was shown in this sequence, including zombie Flanders’s. It ends up, Bart has to bathe in the town’s food so that they can be immune to the zombies.

The last skit was actually a play starring Moe, Marge and Homer, in which Moe has a brewery in his basement. When Homer tries to get free beer, he falls on the brewing equipment and bleeds into the beer. The beer gives everyone a euphoric feeling. Just when Moe is about to convince Marge to date him, her tears bring Homer back to life as half beer, half man. The weird thing about this skit is that it was a musical, and of course they had an appearance by the two aliens.

Overall, the Treehouse of Horror XX was a little less bloody than the previous years. I was a little disappointed that Flanders didn’t die. I can’t wait for next year’s episode of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror.
