I love Michael’s (Steve Carell) meetings in The Office. He tries so hard to make everything fun, and it always slaps him back in the face. But at the beginning of this episode, Ryan (B.J. Novak) gives him a grand idea: Write a book. He finds that it’s harder than he first thought and gives up after … about five seconds.
“There is nothing more insulting to a great salesman than having to listen to a bad salesman.” Yes, this is your daily piece of great advice from Michael. Who is he referring to with this great statement? An Italian-American insurance salesman who Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Andy (Ed Helms) are convinced is part of the mafia.
On the more logical side of the office, Oscar (Oscar Nunez) finds that he is somewhat on his own when trying to convince Michael that the insurance salesman is not threatening to take his life or burn down his warehouse.
A lunch meeting with the mafia member/insurance salesman has the three amigos (Michael, Andy and Dwight) filled with tension as Michael tries to act more “macho” than our hard-talking insurance salesman.
Meanwhile, Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) are out of the office for their honeymoon, and Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) has decided to take it over … first, just to “fart in,” and then on a semi-permanent basis (or until the two lovebirds come back from their honeymoon, at least). This leads to Kevin answering the phone as Jim, and we all know that this can’t end up well. Kevin, acting as Jim, verifies that Jim’s credit card is stolen and being used in Puerto Rico (which just happens to be where the lovebirds are honeymooning) … and his cards are cancelled. Good job, Kev.
Back to the boss … who does Michael turn to, wanting advice regarding the mafia insurance salesman? None other than the prank-loving Jim, that’s who. And Jim continues on to mess with Michael’s feeble little mind.
Thank goodness Jim’s voice at least made a cameo in this episode … because how could anyone in The Office survive without his intellect and wit?
