This week’s episode of Grey’s anatomy, entitled “Invasion,” was about the new doctors from Mercy West, the hospital that is being merged with Seattle Grace, and all the forms of hospital madness that is unleashed.
For starters, the writers did an excellent job when they decided to create a uniform shortage so that the newcomers would stand out in their bright orange outfits. It really brought home the “them verses us” mind set of the incumbent doctors of Seattle Grace.
Right off the bat, Izzie, played by the very lovely and now the very successful movie star Katherine Heigl, threatens to beat up one of the new doctors because she took the locker that once belonged to the late Dr. George O’ Malley.
With a new influx of doctors there is a mad scramble to get in on surgeries, so everyone is trying to impress the resident doctors. Unfortunately, the new doctors seem to have an upper hand as they bring in new ideas that increase efficiency in the hospital.
One new doctor seems to befriend Izzie and she kinda takes him under her wing only to find out that he is totally playing her for a fool. She is so upset about the situation that she diagnoses a patient wrong and almost kills the woman. This patient had been waiting for a new kidney for over three years, but because of Izzie’s mistake she won’t get her kidney, which only gives her about three more days to live.
In a shocking turn of events (something that I didn’t see coming), Izzie Stevenson gets fired! She then leaves her husband, Alex, a note letting him know she has left him. The primary reason seems to be because during the time she was being fired, the chief starts to explain something that Alex mentioned to him earlier about her condition. However, he is cut off by a woman from Human Resources reminding him he needs to fire her according to the professional script. So it appears that Alex said something negative about her work performance.
Is Katherine Heigl still apart of the Grey’s Anatomy cast? I guess we’ll have to wait for the next episode to get that big question answered. I didn’t notice until this episode that the new official picture of the cast does not include Katherine Heigl.
