The latest episode of CSI is not at all what it seems. This episode was not so much about finding a killer, as much as it  was about finding out why the killer committed the act. I am still waiting to know about the intestinal bow tie victim. What happened to him? It seems they have forgotten all about him.

The show started with a guy in a diner who has a gun. Then he is shot dead outside the diner and Brass is interviewing a cop. Finn, the cop, said the guy was shooting, so he got behind the door and fired on him killing him. The guy he shot was Sargent Sam Johnson, a police officer. Nick (George Eads) and Ray collected the evidence  and a witness says that Johnson ran out of the diner when he heard gun shots.

She also said that she saw Finn leaning over the body and Finn shot him while he was down.

Ray finds Finn’s file and discovers that Finn trained Johnson and that Johnson had filed a complaint about Finn’s racial comments. So revenge is the motive. I know what your thinking,”this can’t be right, we still have half the show left.”

Nick and Ray return to the scene and try to find the last shell casing. They find it in a spot where it would have landed, if Finn was standing over the body. The casing had jelly on it. I’m thinking, “why did he run out of the diner?” No one seems to care about the first gun shots. Then it happens.

A call comes in about a dead kid not far from the diner. Sara goes to gather evidence. The kid is shot in the neck and missing a finger.  Apparently, this is how gang snitches are taken care of. She also finds a shoe print and a blood trail. The killer was wounded. She was examining the body in the morgue when a cellphone, in the victims shoe, goes off. She answers it. It was Nick calling the last number on Johnson’s phone. They also discover the jelly on the casing belonged to a kid in the diner, who picked up the casing and threw it.

Sara does an extensive search and has the gang suspected of the shooting brought in. One of them is resistant and rude. His shoes have the same print as the crime scene and he has a bullet in his butt. He is the guy Johnson was shooting at.

Back at the lab, Brass urges Finn to retire. When Finn leaves he sees Ray and Johnson’s dad enter. Ray goes after him. Finn kills himself in the car. Upon examination, Ray discovers Finn has an eye disorder which tunnels his vision. He had no idea it was Johnson he shot.

So, in the last two episodes the killer and victim die. This new formula is not as exciting as trying to figure out who the killer is. I wish I could see more of that.
