Does being insecure about yourself ever end or does it just get worse as you get older? This week on Cougar Town, Jules tackles her issues with getting older, her self body image, and how to get her neighbor to find her attractive.
Jules is feeling insecure. A boy toy points out the little cracks in her feet and it starts her on a downward slope of bad self image and picking herself apart. Her best friend, Ellie, joins her plight and they start picking at little things while telling each other they’re beautiful. While trying to throw out her ex-husband’s things, she comes across an old sex tape she made with him. She shows her friends, which just pushes the insecurity. When her neighbor says he doesn’t find her attractive, she’s sent over the edge, determined to get Grayson to admit she’s attractive.
Laurie (her assistant) and Jules go to check out Vivian, Grayson’s ex wife, so Laurie can compare the two women. It turns out Vivian is engaged and pregnant. Ellie convinces Jules to rub Grayson’s face in it, which she does, and it crushes him. It turns out Grayson didn’t leave Vivian, she left him. He wanted children and she didn’t. Grayson, depressed, retreats into his house. Jules is very remorseful and goes over to talk, telling him he deserved better than Vivian and that while it hurts right now, the pain will become less over time. She leaves him to his thoughts.
Later, she looks out at night and sees his garage light on. Earlier, Jules told Grayson if his garage light was on at 10pm, she’d take that as a sign he found her attractive. She feels pleased and victorious and she and Ellie celebrate over the phone.
If anyone can age gracefully, it’s Courtney Cox, but she portrayed Jules’ insecurities very easily. The sexual tension between Grayson and Jules is strong and I predict a budding relationship sometime in the future. Tune in next week!
