Mad Men is an AMC Drama about ruthless men and women in the 1960s.  This award winning show has a variety of characters to inspire our Halloween attire, and it won’t take much more than a trip to your local thrift store to get the job done. So dust of your Fedora and your cigarette case and release your inter Don or Joan, we’re having a Mad Men Halloween.

For The Men

Grab yourself a tailored 1960s style suit, preferably browns and grays. Find a bow tie or thin tie. A white button up shirt is a must. If you can get a little lipstick stain on the collar, that’s a bonus. Dress shoes, nicely polished and a handkerchief in the pocket of your jacket complete the act.

Props are easy: horn rimmed glassed, a Fedora and a martini glass. Slick your hair back with lots of gel or Dippity Do if you have it. Walk with an air of entitlement and arrogance. This works for all the characters except for Father Gil. In his case, you need a priest shirt or black button up shirt, a white cardboard collar, black dress slacks and black dress shoes.

For The Women

Find a 1960s style dress.  A crinoline, shift dress or a party dress will do nicely. A hat with style is always needed. Gloves, pearls and sensible handbags will make the costume. Your hair and make-up should resemble the era. These should be well styled and put together. Popular hairstyles for Mad Men Women are the french twist (Jane Sterling), the flip (Trudy Campbell) and the bouffant (Bobbie Barrett).

The idea of Halloween is to have fun and dress differently than you would usually. Mad Men costumes are great for couples and small groups. You could even throw a Mad Men style party with cocktails and 1960s decor.
