The surprise television-musical-hit Glee may visit your town, beginning in the Spring 2010, as rumor has it that a Glee Tour may be in the works. Ryan Murphy, a co-creator of the series, stated to EW that no tour scheduling will take place until the season has wrapped.
A successful short promotional tour took place in August 2009, just before the series premiere, and left fans wanting more. Kevin Reilly, president of FOX Broadcasting, said shortly before the Gleeks began their promotion, “We’ve had a tremendous amount of enthusiasm from our music partners. Certainly if these kids become stars in their own right, who knows? Live appearances. Albums. There’s lots of things that could happen.” The show has taken on a life of its own and has scored big in the 18-49 year demographic with close to 7.8 million people watching each week, so a tour just may happen after all.
Unless the celebrated show takes a perplexing turn, I can see nothing but success for the astonishing unknown group of actors and singers. The featured songs have in many cases rivaled or surpassed the popularity of the originals, and just last week the iTunes top 200 featured no less than ten songs from the show. Four of the tunes found their way to the Billboard Hot 100 charts, as well.
Mark your calendars for a possible Spring show, and keep your eyes peeled for Glee: The Music, Volume 1, on November 3, 2009, the date Columbia Records plans to release the first soundtrack.
