Vitamin D is an impressive episode, especially with the character development that took center stage. Will’s wife, Terri, almost became a believable person when she showed that she might actually care for Will, instead of just her own narcissistic self. After cheerleading coach Jane, in another round of Glee Club sabotage, tells Terri that Will has the hots for Emma, Terri takes a job as the high school nurse, to watch over Will and make sure he isn’t falling in love with the germophobic school counselor. Of course, since she doesn’t have a nursing degree, she fakes her expertise, and ends up giving Finn the “upper” pseudoephedrine, (ahem, vitamin D) to help him out of his exhausted state.
The Gleeks think they have the upcoming McKinley High competition in their back pockets and are ho-hum about rehearsals, so Will pits the guys against the gals in an effort to light a torch under their not-ready-to-rehearse bottoms.
For the mashup competition against the girls, Finn doles out the “vitamin D” to the male Gleeks, which gets them moving in a hyped-up perfectly-synced performance. They were amazing as they artfully sang Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life,” and Usher’s “Confessions Part II.” Even Artie got a chance to shine and rock his wheelchair.
In an equally touching scene, Rachel reaches out to Quinn after she is ridiculed by her friends, and shows Quinn unconditional love, despite the horrible way Quinn has treated her. This poignant scene, gave me a glimpse of the true goodness that is hiding under the insecurities of the super-star-in-the-making.
The girl’s tempers flare, when Kurt exposes to them why the guys had performed so well. With their competitive nature, the girls succumb to the lure of winning, and end up performing Beyoncé’s “Halo,” and “Walking on Sunshine,” while also under the influence of pseudoephedrine. When Finn and Rachel are convicted about their cheating, they decide to nullify the competition, Terri gets fired and McKinley high school life goes on—until next week.
I think the guys were brilliant, and rocked the show in their jeans and black leather—raise your hand if you agree.
