This week on Syfy’s Destination Truth, Josh Gates and his band of truth seekers head into the southern hemisphere, to Chile where there have been reports of strange, little green men haunting the desert mines. Then, they fly across the world to Turkey to investigate claims of an underwater lake monster that made international headlines.
Northern Chile
In the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, cryptic figures carved in the earth that can only be see from an aerial view suggest that for centuries something in the desert has been trying to phone home. After taking a look at these mysterious carvings, the Destination Truth team heads into Chile, where they com upon “The Stargate,” which locals believe is a portal to another world. A local UFO researcher tells the crew that the Amarya Indians can guide them to the mine, where an abundance of activity has been experienced.
Descending into the mine, they set up base camp and position IR cameras all throughout the mines to pick up movement. While investigating an area overwhelmed by the smell of decay, Josh and Jael discover a decomposing, humanoid body that they tag and bag for later investigation.
After finding their way out of the mine, they hike toward the ridgeline, where they see a bright light in the sky and begin hearing what can only be described as mechanical alien sounds through the radar.
The evidence they return to the States with baffles two experts, and identification has yet to be determined on the remains.
Van Lake, Turkey
After video evidence of a lake monster made international headlines, Josh and crew head to Turkey to investigate. They meet with the mayor to find out what kind of results the investigative team the government put together has found. People who have seen the monster describe it as having a horse-like head with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Josh heads out by helicopter to view the lake from the air, but while on ground, Sharra and Bicha spot something in the water near the southern shore. With base camp up and running, Josh first explores the water as a diver, then heads out by boat with Rex just as it begins to sleet and rain. Jael spots something in the water near the boat, and a large creature bumps them. They pick up a significant hit on the sonar. They keep watching and searching, but with no luck, and as weather continues to interfere. Armed with the thermal imager they see a serpentine heat signature near the island and advance, hearing a strange chittering sound. After losing the image, they head in to pack up base camp.
Analyzing the evidence, they discover that despite the thermal imager’s heat signature, the underwater footage wasn’t clear. Josh takes the amateur footage with him to analysis, and the expert believes it likely a hoax. Conditions don’t seem to support the evidence, but there is always a possibility.
As last night’s episode aired, Josh rallied viewers on the east coast to make DT a trending topic on Twitter, and it ended as one of the #5 top trends of the night.
Armed with possibility and the promise of more mystery to uncover, Josh and crew head to the Bermuda Triangle next week, one of the world’s most intriguing, paranormal hot spots.
