In the CSI: NY episode that aired last night, Mac and the team are called out to investigate the death of a janitor at Ellis Island who was found by a tour group, hung to death. When they arrive they find the scene is set-up to look as if it were a suicide but a series of odd events quickly rule out the suicide notion.
The killer seems to be stuck in the 1960s, using old style notepaper and pen to write the would be suicide letter. Along with the letter the killer leaves an old compass that has been super-glued to always point south.
At first baffled by what this may mean the team use their forensic skills to track down the make and the inscription that had been filed off the back of the watch.
While the CSI: NY team is trying to track this guy down we, the viewers, are introduced to the killer and learn that he doesn’t like daylight and that he lives with a beautiful young woman, who I personally believe will be revealed as being purely a psychotic illusion, but that’s just my take on it.
The killer taunts the team by sending Mac a second antique compass pointing north which has a pollen residue that leads them to a garden conservatory where they discover the body of a a second victim. The woman also has a cryptic suicide note attached to her and she is hung in the same manner as the first victim.
In the closing scene Mac listens to a message left to him by Sid, mentioning that the female victim’s husband is coming to view her body, but Mac knows the victim was a widow. Mac rushes to Save Sid’s life. Fortunately, Sid is not harmed and all the killer wanted to do was leave another compass for Mac to find.
This episode of CSI: NY ends as a cliffhanger and we are just given the foundation of this story then left to ponder who this guy is and why is he killing seemingly random people in such a bizarre manner.
