In this week’s episode of The Good Wife, Alicia gets a blast from the past when she has to visit the old neighborhood and her old social circle for a case. Alicia deals with her memories of living there, while trying to hold her family together.
Kenny, the son of a former friend of Alicia’s, comes to Alicia’s firm to see her. He’s frightened and thinks he’s going to be arrested. He and his friend Brian went over to a friend Spencer’s house to get some marijuana, only to find the door locked. They opened the window to get in and heard a security guard coming. Kenny ran as fast as he could home then came to Alicia asking for help. She takes him home only to have him arrested for felony murder. Apparently the security guard fell down the stairs, cracked his head on the concrete, and died.
Alicia agrees to take the case, but only wishes to be background because she has emotional ties to the boy. Cary is placed as the first chair. They find out that Brian has cut a deal with the state, saying that Kenny killed the security guard while he hid in order to only get a burglary charge instead of felony murder. Cary tries to get Spencer to testify for Kenny, but Spencer’s parents block it. Things are starting to look bleak until Alicia sees that Spencer’s family waters their lawn with sprinklers at 11:15 every night. Since that was the time of the murder and there’s nothing on the report that indicates Brian was wet, it becomes clear he’s lying. With that evidence and no physical evidence linking Kenny to the actual crime, Alicia and Cary get Kenny a charge of trespassing and possession with no jail time.
After the case is over, Alicia spends time with her family while Cary goes and takes full credit for helping Kenny, even though it was Alicia’s evidence that won it.
I actually got my husband to watch the show with me and we both agree that we hate Cary. I mean, he’s the character you’re supposed to hate I guess, but he’s so pretentious it makes me sick. Alicia continues to impress me and it’s fantastic to see how she prevails through all of her familial complications. Next week looks interesting as Alicia feels she’s found evidence of jury tampering. I can’t wait!
