When we tuned in for this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, we found that the hospital staff was in complete turmoil behind a newly announced merger between Seattle Grace Hospital and a lower level hospital. Most of the doctors and nurses are more concerned with state of their future employment rather than concentrating on their patients.
Izzie comes back to work after surviving major surgery weeks ahead of time in fear she would no longer have her job if she waited any longer. She chooses to wear a wig that doesn’t look anywhere near natural and her friends are forced to go along with it without saying how ridiculous she looks.
While it is a funny part of the show, it also provides us with a mental note about how a person has to go to great lengths to deal with cancer.
The Chief and Dr. Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, have their own private little war over the Chief potentially being fired and Dr. Shepherd taking over his job. The Chief has kept himself locked away from the rest of the hospital after he made the announcement about the merger. Dr. Shepherd is caught right in the middle of the paranoia and thinks that the Chief should be out communicating with the staff.
After a second tense sequence between the two we discover that the Chief was been locked in his office all day making the tough decisions on who stayed and who was being let go. At the end of the show the HR department sends out the “pink-slips” via e-mails and as viewers we watch with some mild tension as some of our favorite characters grab their mobile devices and rattle through checking e-mail to see if they are about to be ex-cast members of Grey’s Anatomy.
This week was another powerful episode of Grey’s Anatomy with such diverse and intense drama seemingly around every turn that you didn’t want to move away from the television because by the time you got back another one of your favorite cast members could have been axed.
