On this week’s episode of Syfy’s Destination Truth, Josh Gates and crew head first to the Chernobyl site in Prypia to investigate claims of paranormal activity amidst dangerous, high radiation. Afterward, they fly back to Egypt to check out resident claims of a strange, dog-like monster known as the ala’wa.

Chernobyl
Getting into Prypia, the dangerous site of Chernobyl in Russia wasn’t easy for the Destination Truth crew. Through three government checkpoints, the crew had to explain and gain approval to pass into the high radiation danger zone. While traveling through, they asked the soldiers about their experiences, and if they believe them to be paranormal.

Once inside the grounds, the crew are required to suit up in protective gear and monitor their radiation levels while patrolling the area.

While investigating Chernobyl, the crew experienced an abundance of strange activity. They captured inexplicable images on the FLIR, stood by helpless while their equipment fizzled in and out. At one point while investigating the school, researcher, Jael, experienced an unseen entity grabbing her hand. After returning from Chernobyl, Josh heads to Rhode Island and sits down with Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes from Ghost Hunters to analyze the evidence. The guys conclude that the evidence is amazing, and Josh decides that Chernobyl is definitely rife with paranormal activity.

The Ala’wa
Heading back to Egypt, Josh and crew set out to find out the truth behind villagers’ claims of a large, doglike beast known to attack people. Traveling the two hundred miles of desert that stretch along the Nile, they arrive in the small village and ask around about the al’awa. Gathering enough information about the nature of the beast, they set up base camp and a series of camera traps, then head into the sugar cane fields to begin their search for the ala’wa.

While inside the massive sugar cane, Jael begins hearing a low, guttural growling that terrifies her. She and Josh reconnect, and as they are moving through the field, the growling continues to follow them. With five investigators in the field, they find themselves trapped by the strange growling creature within the cane fields. Josh also manages to cast a canine print, and they capture a strange image with their trap cameras before heading back to the states to evaluate the evidence. A strange, fox like creature seems to be the culprit, as it is remarkably similar to the descriptions of the ala’wa.

Week after week, one of the most interesting aspects of Destination Truth is how deep Josh and his crew are willing to go into the dangerous unknown to try and discover the truth. Since I see Josh Gates regularly tweeting on Twitter, I know he survived the recording of the episodes we’re watching now, but I’m constantly on the edge of my seat. Now that is good TV!
