The Fox Television Network’s series Lie To Me originally premiered on January 21, 2009. The show’s theme is about Dr. Cal Lightman and his colleagues in The Lightman Group who are professionals in determining if people are telling lies. They observe a person’s micro-expressions through something they call a Facial Action Coding System to determine if they are telling the truth.

In the new season’s first episode entitled “The Core Of It,” which aired September 28, 2009, we are presented with a very interesting case of a young woman who first thinks she is seeing psychic visions of a murder. We then learn that she was sexually abused as a young child by her grandfather which caused her to create an alter ego or a split personality. One is an upstanding young woman and the other is a street credited working girl.

The team has to discover if the alter ego killed someone or if that ego actually did the murder herself. One ego is totally telling the truth, the other can go either way, but leans toward telling the truth.

Another case involves a judge who has been nominated to the Supreme Court but has a cases that reveals he may be prejudicial in his sentencing. A new up and coming agent is put on the big case to test how well she is coming along in being able to determine if a person is telling the truth or not.  Her decision on the character of this judge will make or break his being nominated to the Supreme Court chair.

In the end, the judge made some inappropriate decisions early in his carrier and has been exemplary ever since. Still, because of the blemish he decides to remove his name from the Supreme Court nomination process.

I have to say that this was my first time watching an episode of  Lie To Me and I will admit that this is a very good, gritty and entertaining series. The storyline and plots are exceptional and the acting is top-notch. Check out this behind-the-scenes web exclusive on Dr. Cal Lightman:
