In last night’s episode, entitled “Hostile Takeover,” we again are presented with a case that seem to have no rhyme or reason. A gunman takes hostages right in the middle of central command offices. One of the five  hostages is the new member of the CSI: Miami team, played by Eddie Cibrian.  Of course, if the gunman discovers he is a cop, he will be killed.

Once the hostages are shuffled into a bulletproof room the gunman begin to make some strange demands.  First, he will only talk with Horatio and threatens to kill one of the hostages of they don’t find him and get him on the phone in 10 minutes.  Normally you don’t want the best police officer in the state trying to apprehend you, but this guy does.  His next demand is  for $100,000 from a specific check cashing service.

He claims he’ll know if the money came from that specific location or not.

After getting the money, he then releases the hostages and send them out with the money before he makes his escape. They discover all he wanted them to do was be aware that the money was being counterfeited.

Next, he goes to his estranged wife’s home and kicks in the door. Then leaves without taking anything and without destroying anything else.  They discover that his estranged wife and her new love interest have been framing this guy so that he would not be able to see his son. All of this comes out through forensics investigation.

Unfortunately, this guy felt he had to committ crimes himself to get beyond his local police department who did not have the expertise to uncover the truth surrounding this man’s downward spiral. He intentionally provoked the best police team in the state in order to find justice for his cause.

I found this episode of CSI: Miami to be a very exiting episode, but I couldn’t help but wonder if there was really no other way for this man to get justice. In the end the guy peacefully turns himself in and we discovered that he had decide to sacrifice his freedom in order to get his son out of a dangerous environment.
