Castle premiered last week with almost 9.5 million viewers. I hope the numbers stay high because I would really like to see more of this show. This show has found a good balance between comedy and drama.
This episode starts with a crazy scene in the police station. What looks to be a couple of prostitutes fighting it out. There is hair pulling, shirts tearing and name calling. While the police officers try to subdue the women, Castle watches intently, chewing on his popcorn.
A body has been found in a therapist office up town. A husband found his wife shot dead with writing on her face that said “psycho therapist, your out of time.” Castle notes the improper use of grammar here and it bugs him throughout the episode.
Around this time, the other two investigators are called out on a “pop and drop” or random shooting.
At the station, Castle makes a bet with the other two investigators on who will solve their case first. They have to hide this from Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), because she is so strict. The investigation begins. They chase down various leads that go nowhere. The other people in the station start betting on the cases and the bet grows so that the team that loses has to where a dress and shave their head.
A forensics report connect the two crimes together at a meeting with both the therapist husband and the pop and drop victims daughter and son-in-law. Castle and Kate learn that the shooting case and the therapist case maybe connected through an incident years ago.
Upon investigation, they discover that the suspect is under house arrest and could not have committed the crimes. Castle deducts that the victims may not be connected, but their families might. The team finds out that the son-in-law and the husband ride the same water taxi to work everyday.
When they bring the suspects in, they again break off into teams and bet on who can get a confession first. Castle and Kate discover that their guy was the alpha male and would not crack. They trick the other suspect into a confession by telling him their guy “rolled on him.”
The wager is still up in the air because Castle and Kate got a confession, but it was not their suspect that confessed.
This episode was full of comic moments and twists. The betting aspect was hilarious. At one point, Castle holds up one of his mother’s dresses to see how he would look in it. Next weeks episode has the team hitting the fashion world, when they find a dead model.
