Glee_FootballWednesday’s show was aptly named, with a duel pregnancy theme underlying this episode. Will’s wife is loony tunes, as she fakes a pregnancy, all the while, convincing herself that it is a hysterical pregnancy. Meanwhile, the chastity club-leader Quinn finds herself with child, and convinces Finn that the baby is his, from a hot tub kiss, complete with bathing suits and abstinence. Will’s conniving wife gets wind of Quinns’ predicament, and sets out to seduce Quinn into giving her the baby. What a tangled web we weave…

Fade to Kurt…everyone looks for acceptance from their parents, and Kurt is no exception. He gets caught, by his dad, as he practices his dance moves. Trying his hardest to make his dad believe that he was actually performing an acceptable and manly workout as a member of the football team, he has no choice but to actually try out. Good old Finn helps get him into the tryouts, which is the lead in to one of the best lines of the episode. When Finn tries to get Kurt to forgo a pre-kick dance, so that he doesn’t get ridiculed by the football players, Kurt replies, “My body is like a rum-chocolate souffle, if I don’t warm it up right, it doesn’t rise. I’m doing this and I’m doing it my way.” Needless to say, he is the laughing stock on the field until, lo-and-behold, he kicks a big one … right through the goal posts. With Kurt’s help, the team dances to their first victory and Kurt gets the courage to reveal his sexual identity to his dad. His dad reveals that he knew all along that Kurt was gay and offers unconditional acceptance to his son.

In case you are wondering, Mr. Hummel was convincingly played by Mike O’Malley, who was the absolutely hysterical Jimmy Hughes in the 2000 comedy, Yes, Dear.

I really enjoyed this episode, it’s no wonder the show was just picked up for a full season. The dicey subjects were handled well, and watching the football players dance to Beyonce’s “Put a Ring on It,” was worth the price of admission.
