The premiere of the new NBC series Mercy has aired and it is very reminiscent of Grey’s Anatomy. The series focuses on the nursing staff of the ER in Mercy Hospital. There is Veronica (Taylor Schilling) who is a veteran from Iraq, Sonia (Jaime Lee Kirchner) a saucy 20 something, and Chloe (Michelle Trachtenberg) a Hello Kitty wearing newbie.
The story opened with Veronica drinking coffee and listing to the news. When a wreck happens just outside the window, she leaps into action and preforms some crazy procedure on the guy in the car, posing as a doctor. At the hospital we discover she is just a nurse. Apparently her time in Iraq has given her a wealth of knowledge, however, she needs to know her place. Mike shows up with flowers for Veronica. They are separated, because both of them cheated on each other during her time in Iraq.
A pair of gunshot victims are wheeled in with a cop in tow. The Victims are yelling threats at each other, when one goes into arrest. The New girl arrives and is quickly initiated into the ER, when she gets food thrown on her and a bed pan dumped on her scrubs. The nurses have drinks at a bar near by(Grey’s Anatomy) and discuss life.
At Veronica house we met her parent’s. Oh how I love this couple: raging drunks. They’re hilarious. The parents are having “Gin Ricky’s,” whatever that is. And she and her husband decide to stay together.
The next day at the hospital a new doctor arrives, Dr. Scott. Veronica and Dr Scott go to talk to a patient, then go immediately to another room and start making out. I am hoping she knows this guy and is not just a rabid slut. OK, so she knows him. He is the guy she cheated on her husband with in Iraq. Oh, the drama!
Sonia is about to go to a gala with a lawyer beau, when one of the gunshot victims starts to moan. She goes to check on him. He grabs her and punches her in the face. She proceeds to grab a tray and smack him in the head. The cops converge and take control. The cop and Sonia have a talk. He is definitely into her, but she needs a man that makes more money. After many drinks she gives in and sleeps with him.
I felt Like I had seen this show before, especially Veronica’s love story. Oh wait, I have seen it before with Meredith and Dr. McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, minus the service in Iraq. The bartender is cuter on this show than the one on Grey’s though.
