The NBC hit TV drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is about a special police unit, the 16th Precinct, which is assigned to some of the worst sexual criminal cases in the city of New York. The show debuted on September 20, 1999, as a spin-off from the original NBC crime drama Law & Order. However, the SVU version is currently the highest-rated series of the four part Law & Order shows and has remained one of the highest rated shows on television over the last several years. Law & Order: SVU season eleven premiered September 23, 2009 with an explosive new episode entitled “Unstable.” The two lead detectives, Benson and Stabler, are forced to work a case with a crude and bullish type of cop named Nate Kendall.
Kendall was taking down another suspect when a woman, wrapped in a bloody sheet and with her hands tied, races across the street right in front of him. He runs to help her and the unstable victim attaches to him emotionally.
At first she refuses to talk to anyone but Kendall about her rape. Neither Benson or Stabler wants Kendall to work the case because of his brutish nature, and Kendall himself doesn’t like working with victims.
Unfortunately, the case becomes more complicated and extends the union of the unhappy team, when the new Executive ADA brings evidence that their case may have been committed by a serial rapist. During the investigation of the case new evidence from an old case arises and Stabler starts to believe that he may have convicted the wrong man who is serving time in prison for a rape that occurred almost ten years ago.
This was a very exciting and well written script that keeps you glued to the TV screen as you try to piece together clues to come up with your own conclusions as to who did what. Great drama, action and intrigue all wrapped up into one great Law & Order SVU episode.
