We’ve all seen it. A politician gets caught with his pants around his ankles and pulls a press conference. Standing next to him is The Good Wife.
Her husband being implicated in a scandal, Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) goes back to being a lawyer after 13 years of being a politician’s wife and stay at home mom. Working with her new firm, she takes a Pro Bono case. The woman in question is Jennifer Lewis, accused of killing her ex-husband and making it look like a botched hijacking. She stands to support the woman, but the prosecutor and the judge talk over her and allow for Jennifer’s case to be retried.
In the office, Alicia and Kalinda help Jennifer go over what happened in the case and help her believe in herself.
She goes off to meet the jurors and it turns out all of them wanted to convict, except one. The hold out wore them down into a deadlock where they changed their votes just to leave.
During visiting hours, she confronts her husband who is in jail for his scandal. He tries to tell her it will be over soon and everything will be back to normal. She fires back that it won’t ever be the same again.
After reviewing the evidence, it appears some evidence was not submitted as the police felt it was circumstantial. Alicia takes this evidence and shows, along with the botched security cameras that Jennifer was not the killer. The police drop the case against her to pursue the brother of the deceased’s new wife. The “circumstantial” evidence links dog hair from the clothes on the dead body to the brother, as he works at a dog track.
Alicia celebrates her victory in her office with her boss and good friend. He tells her she’s bumped up to second chair on his case. The lights of the show fade as she talks to her husband on the phone.
I’m more of a comedy girl when it comes to television, but The Good Wife had me riveted to my seat. Julianna Marguiles is an excellent actress, playing Alicia so well that she really tugs at your heartstrings. I’m definitely excited to see where this show is going.
